The 50 Shades of Grey trilogy author E.L. James has tapped her husband to write the film’s sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
James’ husband of 28 years, Niall Leonard, is also an author and screenwriter, and worked on the script for the first Fifty Shades film, although he was uncredited.
Leonard is also the author of the Crusher book series, and has worked on British TV shows such as Air Force One Is Down and Wire in the Blood. He and James have two sons together.
“Niall is an outstanding writer in his own right, with multiple established credits, and we are lucky to have him join Team Fifty,” producer Michael De Luca said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
Although the first film was a massive box office success, earning $568.8 million worldwide, neither director Sam Taylor-Johnson nor screenwriter Kelly Marcel are returning for the second film, after reportedly clashing with James over creative control.
Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are currently negotiating for more money for the sequel, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
