Idris Elba On The Set Of New Season Of ‘Luther’

via Daily Mail:
Idris Elba looked like a man who was glad to be back on Tuesday as he filmed scenes for the forthcoming series of Luther on set in London.

The 42-year-old actor will return as the hardened Detective Chief Inspector in a new miniseries, set to air later this year, and he was in the thick of it as cameras rolled on a pivotal scene.

As members of the production team lingered close by, Elba was seen grappling with a co-star in the doorway of a plush terraced house.

Sporting a green hooded coat and jeans, the heavy-set actor grabbed his smaller cast-mate by the shoulders.

In a second scene he was filmed tussling with a middle-aged man in a sharp blue suit, the blazer of which appeared to be pulled over his head during the angry confrontation.

The previous day Idris, who is filming two new special episodes, documented his first day on set with a snap posted on Instagram.

The actor shared the shot of himself holding his thumbs up to the camera to his Twitter account, showing off the large star tattoo on his hand.

The Golden Globe winner wrote: ‘First day back to set of John Luther… stand by East London.’

The BBC One Crime drama series centres on a near-genius murder detective [Elba], whose brilliant mind can’t always save him from the dangerous violence of his passions.

The busy actor’s next big screen projects include The Jungle Book, with Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray and Christopher Walken.

He’ll also appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron, with Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo.

Elba shot to fame in the U.S. after scoring a lead role on HBO’s drama The Wire from 2002-2004.

In January this year, the Brit actor announced that his BBC crime thriller series Luther is being adapted for the big screen and will be remade in the US.

Idris recently responded to suggestions that he should be the next James Bond, posting a grimacing selfie to his Twitter account.

He captioned the image with the words: ‘Isn’t 007 supposed to handsome? Glad you think I’ve got a shot! Happy New year people.’

Luther’s writer, Neil Cross, said: ‘Ever since we said goodbye to John Luther on Southwark Bridge, there’s hardly been a minute when I didn’t wonder what happened next.

‘So I decided to find out. We’re putting the band back together; Luther is coming back where he belongs. Back to the BBC. Back to London. And back to work.’
